National Geospatial Collaborative (NGC) – Treasurer (Board Appointed Officer Role)


The National Geospatial Collaborative (NGC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the understanding, use, and integration of geographic information systems (GIS) and emerging geospatial technologies. NGC supports professionals, organizations, and initiatives through collaborative research, education, knowledge-sharing, and strategic partnerships.


As NGC continues to grow as a 501(c)(3) organization, the Board of Directors seeks to appoint a Treasurer to join its leadership team and help guide the organization’s financial governance and sustainability.


Role Overview

As an NGC Board-Appointed Officer, the Treasurer will work with the Board Chair, Directors, and other NGC Officers to provide strategic financial leadership and oversight for the organization. This includes ensuring sound fiscal management, compliance with nonprofit financial standards, and alignment of financial practices with NGC’s mission and goals.


Core Responsibilities

  • Oversee creation, monitoring, and presentation of the annual budget.
  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of tax returns, audits, and annual reports.
  • Present financial reports during board meetings and provide accessible insight for directors.
  • Monitor and maintain compliance with financial policies and procedures, recommending updates as needed.
  • Provide ongoing financial oversight to ensure the health and sustainability of the organization.

Additional Desired Experience/Responsibilities – Grants & Procurement


  • Guide the organization in identifying, applying for, and managing grant funding opportunities (federal, state, foundation, and corporate).
  • Establish clear policies and procedures for grant compliance, reporting, and auditing.
  • Work with board leadership to align funding strategies with NGC’s long-term goals.
  • Advise on procurement and contracting policies to ensure competitive, transparent, and compliant vendor selection.
  • Support the development of contract templates and review financial implications of vendor agreements.
  • Help implement systems to track grant deliverables, budgets, and procurement activities.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Strong financial acumen with relevant experience
  • Familiarity with 501(c)(3) financial reporting, compliance, and governance standards.
  • Demonstrated understanding of grant funding cycles and compliance (e.g., federal Uniform Guidance, state or foundation reporting).
  • Knowledge of procurement best practices and vendor management.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and present financial information to diverse audiences.
  • Integrity, accountability, and a collaborative spirit within a volunteer-led environment.

Preferred Skills

  • Previous experience in a paid or volunteer financial leadership role (e.g., Treasurer, CFO, Controller).
  • Experience managing federal or state grant programs.
  • Knowledge of procurement laws and regulations applicable to nonprofits.
  • Proven track record of helping organizations grow through strategic funding and partnerships.
  • CPA or equivalent credential (preferred, but not required).

How to Nominate: To nominate a candidate, please submit via the Submission Button below until November 15, 2025.  Peer-nominations and self-nominations are welcomed.


Process and Timeline: Once nominations are received, the NGC Board will confirm with the nominees their willingness to serve and collect applicable support documents as requested by the NGC Board (e.g., resumes, CVs, a brief statement of interest outlining relevant experience and motivation for serving as Treasurer, etc.). 


The board will review the confirmed nominations and conduct interviews with selected nominated candidates that match the needs of NGC. The NGC Board will make their selected appointments and notify all candidates of the Board’s decision by December 15th of the calendar year. 


New Treasurer board-appointed officer role will begin on January 1st.

Types of Nominations


Self-Nomination

An individual directly requests to be considered as a candidate for a particular position or opportunity within NGC without being nominated by someone else.


Membership Nomination/Peer Nomination

Individuals are nominated by their NSGIC peers and fellow members for a particular position or opportunity within NGC.


Executive Leadership Nomination

The NSGIC Executive Committee or leadership team nominates an individual(s) for a particular position or opportunity within NGC.


Committee/Working Group Nomination

NSGIC Committee/Working Group selects and nominates a candidate for a particular position or opportunity within NGC.


External Nomination

Individuals or partner organizations with a formal agreement with NSGIC in place nominate an individual outside of membership for a particular position or opportunity within NGC. 


NGC Board Nomination

Nomination of candidates by internal NGC Board Directors for a particular position or opportunity within NGC.
